Care Home Eye Care: Practical Coordination and Follow-Up

Templeman Opticians Essex · Updated 20 October 2026

Keep eye care within the wider care plan

The NHS falls guidance includes regular eye tests among several measures for reducing falls risk. Eye care is one part of a wider approach; a sight test or a new pair of glasses does not guarantee that a resident will avoid a fall. Individual concerns should be discussed with the professionals responsible for the resident's care.

Name the person coordinating the visit

Agree who will speak with the practice, arrange access and keep track of appointments. For an initial enquiry, give the home name, town and coordinator's contact details. Do not send a resident list or private health records through the public website.

Make glasses queries specific

If a resident's glasses are damaged or the fit needs attention, describe the problem to the practice and ask how it should be assessed. Confirm the proposed next step, any charges and current availability. This guide does not recommend changing how an individual wears their glasses.

Record the agreed follow-up

Keep the appointment, fitting or repair arrangements in the home's normal confidential record process. Ask the practice to confirm any individual recall advice and identify who staff should contact with a question. Avoid assuming the same testing interval or service response applies to every resident.

Review the handover

When a resident joins the home or changes provider, ask what previous appointment or prescription information is useful and how it should be shared securely. Make clear which appointments or glasses arrangements remain outstanding.

Discuss the arrangements with Templeman

See our care home service information and printable discussion pack, then call 01268 777729 to discuss the current service. Any appointment, repair response or contract terms are confirmed separately by the practice.
