NHS Home Eye Test Eligibility: What to Check Before an Enquiry

Templeman Opticians Essex · Updated 20 October 2026

Two separate checks

A free NHS sight test and an NHS-funded home visit have separate requirements. Being over 60 or living in a care home does not by itself establish entitlement to a funded visit at home. Use our two-condition eligibility guide and the full NHS guidance rather than relying on a single item in a list.

Start with a short enquiry

Tell us the town, whether the visit is to a private home or care home, and who the practice should contact to discuss arrangements. You do not need to send medical records, benefit documents or a resident list through this website.

Discuss funding and any charges before booking

Ask the practice to confirm the funding position, any evidence it needs to see and any private charges before agreeing a visit. A funded sight test and help with glasses are separate questions; ask about both if you need to.

Arranging the next step

Call 01268 777729 or prepare an appointment enquiry. The form prepares a draft on your device. It is not sent until you send it through your email app, and it does not reserve an appointment. The practice confirms the visit separately.

Official guidance checked 20 October 2026: NHS sight tests, optical vouchers and mobile visits. The practice confirms the arrangements for the individual patient.
