Keeping Track of Eye Care Appointments in a Care Home

Templeman Opticians Essex · Updated 20 October 2026

Use the individual recall advice

Ask the resident's optometrist to confirm the appropriate review arrangement for that person. Do not assume one testing interval is suitable for every resident or that a funding category automatically sets the appointment date.

Keep the appointment arrangements clear

Record the agreed date, the practice contact, who is coordinating the visit and whether a fitting or other follow-up remains to be arranged. Use the home's normal confidential record process rather than the public website.

Plan a change of provider or a new resident

If a resident joins the home or changes provider, tell the practice when you enquire. Ask what previous appointment or prescription information is useful and how it should be shared securely.

Keep repairs separate from routine recalls

If glasses are damaged, contact the practice about that specific problem rather than waiting for a routine appointment. Tell the team what is broken and ask it to confirm the next step and availability.

Discuss a coordinated service

See care home visits for the existing service and call 01268 777729 to discuss arrangements. Any schedule and contract terms need to be confirmed for the home and individual residents.
